FOCUSED ON TRAINING
Our safety and the public’s safety is a primary concern for our unit. Before joining the Motor Unit members are required to complete a series of motorcycle related training courses. This includes a certified police motorcycle training course. This consists of 80 hours of intense motorcycle training held over two consecutive weeks.

Additional requirements include completion of the Ingham and Eaton County Volunteer Training Academies. These Sheriff's Office sponsored academies are held annually a designated times in the evenings and include training in firearms use, self defense tactics, lethal force, respective department policies, CPR, department history, radio use and other activities designed to assist in the fulfillment of our reserve responsibilities.

For select members of our unit, special training is offered in conjunction with the Michigan State Police Motorcycle Training Unit . This elite training includes performance motorcycle riding, high speed motorcade training and formation riding.
